Aromatherapy - It Smells Great, But Does It Work

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2008

Is it voodoo? Is it mindplay? Is it because we’re cheap? Or is it just because human beings would rather heal themselves by smelling a scent, then by taking a needle or swallowing a pill. Is aromatherapy the new feel good drug, well, actually no!

Aromatherapy dates back centuries. India and Egypt have been widely accepted as the countries where aromatherapy originated. In Egypt, the use of aromatherapy was a privilege, and thus only the Pharaohs and high priests were allowed to indulge in it. Even Cleopatra was a known believer in aromatherapy. From Egypt, the echoes of this new found healing spread to Arabia. From India it spread to China, Japan and Tibet. Dating back to the earliest stages of humanity, the use of aromatic type fumes has been apart of the daily lives and religious ceremonies for a lot of people, to the point of being sacred.

Unfortunately, with the 19th century came the advent of modern medicine, and as is to be expected, people started to turn away from aromatherapy and wanted to experience the new medicine. Thanks to French chemist Rene-Maurice Gattesfosse, the 1920s saw a revival in aromatherapy. As the story goes, Rene severely burned himself in his lab and in order to stop the pain, he put his arm in the only cold substance that was available, which happened to be a container of lavender essential oil. His burns healed quickly, with very little scarring. From that point on, Rene spent the rest of his life studying aromatherapy, or the healing power of scented healing oils.

Aromatherapy found it’s way into Britain in the 1950s;but it wasn’t until the 1980s when people in the United States began to become aware of aromatherapy. So, what is aromatherapy? Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for physical and psychological well being. Essential oils are the pure essence of a plant. It is important to remember that perfume oils, also known as fragrances, are not the same as essential oils. Perfume oils and fragrances contain unnatural chemicals and can’t provide the benefits of essential oils.

Aromatherapy has been used to treat everything from the common cold to central nervous system disorders and diseases. Many people also look to aromatherapy to help relieve their mental and emotional disorders, such as depression and anxiety. Many essential oils have antibacterial and antiviral properties, these elements allow essential oils the ability to help eliminate stress, increase energy, enhance memory and stimulate natural healing.

Aromatherapy sounds nice, smells great and appears easy, but like everything else in life, there’s a catch and aromatherapy is no different. The basic elements of aromatherapy are essential oils. These oils are highly concentrated liquids that can be harmful if not used properly. Essential oils should always be diluted before you put them on the skin. Some oils can cause allergic reactions in some people. Everybody is different. Just because a certain oil doesn’t irritate your skin, doesn’t mean it won’t irritate someone else. Some essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy and also by those with asthma, epilepsy and other health conditions. Not all essential oils should be used in aromatherapy. Wormwood, penny royal, onion, camphor, wintergreen and rue are a few of the oils that should be avoided.

Aromatherapy is not the be all and end all, it’s just another step in the potential healing process. It’s not a miracle drug! It can’t cure major illnesses!

Healing with Crystals

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2008

Recently I attended the Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Show. This was my first time to attend this annual event sponsored by the Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Society.

I was delighted to discover crystals of rare quality and value on display at the show. The world class specimens available for sale were truly impressive.

On arriving I was immediately drawn to a booth of exquisite crystals owned by a couple from Mount Shasta, California. My acupuncture friend who accompanied me to the event was especially interested in purchasing a Vogel crystal, a precision crafted healing instrument.

I fell into a lively conversation with my new friend from Mount Shasta, a woman named Nan, bombarding her with my numerous questions about healing with gemstones and crystals. She was a veritable fountain of practical information.

As I spoke with Nan about my work and what I was looking for she pulled out her treasure box of Vogel crystals. She lifted the lid and I was awed by the Vogel crystals I saw inside.

Nan’s collection of Vogels, except for one, were rather large instruments and all were optic, completely clear with no inclusions, making them extremely powerful and highly valued as clear crystals have the largest capacity for healing. They had serendipitously come to Nan by way of a Vogel dealer in Sweden.

As I held the Vogels, one by one, I could feel their force for generating and amplifying energy as it coursed through my body. It was an awesome experience!

I handled the smallest Vogel crystal and considered purchasing it, the price was affordable. Most of the Vogel crystals Nan offered for sale were priced at several hundred to over a thousand dollars.

Continuing to ask questions I spoke about the vision for my work and my interest to amplify my results obtained in practice, as well as using crystals to enhance the effects of PurePlant Essentials by transferring the energy of gemstones and crystals into the oils.

Nan lit up like a light bulb as I spoke and showed me her treasured collection of Lemurian Seed Crystals, sharing her story about them. How they were found and their purpose.

After much deliberation, holding and sensing each of the Lemurian Seed Crystals generating and amplification capacity for healing I finally chose two that seemed perfectly aligned with me and my intent for doing healing work.

In Part II of Healing with Lemurian Seed Crystals I will speak more about the legend of the Lemurian Seed Crystals, as well as discuss my empirical findings when using them in practice, and how I am using them to amplify the effects of PurePlant Essentials

What is Aromatherapy

Posted by admin on March 29th, 2008

Aromatherapy is the practice of using plant oils, such as Essential Oils, for psychological and physical well-being.

What is an Essential Oil ? Essential oils are the pure form of the plant . They are not chemicals and are extracted without solvents.

Essential Oils that are inhaled into the lungs are thought to be beneficial both Physically and mentally. The aroma of the Essential Oils stimulate the brain to trigger a reaction. They also have a direct effect on the body when inhaled.
Thus you can experience benefits from the Proper Use of Essential Oils. It is very important to remember the misuse of essential oils can have severe consequences. Always know what you are doing before experimenting with these oils.

It is also import to note that anything you put on your skin will in most cases be absorbed by the body. Essential Oils should never be used directly on the skin. They are way to concentrated and need to be mixed with a carrier oil such as a vegetable oil before applying to the skin. Some common Carrier Oils are Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, sunflower oil.

When purchasing a Essential Oil it is important to know there is a difference between an Essential Oil and a Fragrance Oil.

What is a Fragrance Oil ?
Fragrance Oils are artificially made oils. They lack the properties in most cases that Essential Oils posses. The usually contain artificial substances and are usually diluted with carrier oils.

Be sure to know what you are buying and using before making any product yourself.
